New WRF Academy Training: ISO 59014 – Sustainability and Traceability of Secondary Material Recovery

The World Resources Forum is launching a new training on ISO 59014:2024, the international standard offering practical guidance for companies and organisations involved in recycling, waste management, and extended producer responsibility — including those operating under subsistence conditions.

This first edition of the course draws on pilot experiences from India, Peru, the Netherlands, Ghana, and Switzerland in the electronics and construction sectors, with a focus on traceability, responsible management, and material circularity.

The training can be delivered entirely in English or Spanish.

Course Programme

The course is aimed at private sector professionals, including managers of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) organisations and their associated collectors, recycling companies working with construction materials, electronics, plastics, and other waste streams, as well as technical and process managers in recycling operations. It is equally relevant for civil society actors, such as industry and trade chambers and associations, independent consultants and advisors, and professionals in metrology and standardization who support audit and verification processes. Basic experience with ISO management systems and/or recycling practices is recommended.

What participants will learn

  • How to apply the requirements of ISO 59014 in real-world collection and recycling processes
  • How to define environmental and social performance indicators and monitor working conditions
  • How to design recovery routes that maximize circularity with social responsibility
  • How to integrate health, safety, and supplier management into subsistence-based activities
  • How to assess a recovery process’s compliance with ISO 59014
  • How to generate data that supports material traceability across the life cycle

Participants who successfully complete the course and final project will receive a certificate issued by the World Resources Forum. Spots are limited.
