Implementing the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights in Commodity Trading

Hosted by the Swiss Trading and Shipping Association (STSA) and chaired by Dr. Nina Eggert

This workshop aims at discussing how to implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights in Commodity Trading. It draws on the Guidance developed for this purpose in a multistakeholder initiative with NGOs, commodity trading companies, the Swiss Trading and Shipping Association and Swiss federal authorities (Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and the State Secretariat for Economy). The workshop will have the format of a panel discussion. It will start with a keynote of the FDFA to introduce the multistakeholder initiative and the challenges, the lessons learned and the outcomes of the process (15’). The speakers will then answer a first round of questions by the chair (20’), the discussion will then be opened to the audience (20’). A second series of questions by the chair will be addressed by the speakers on the next steps (20’), followed by an open discussion with the audience.
