WS6 Developing a business plan for manual e-waste recycling

· Workshop Organisers: SRI and UNIDO

· Workshop Chair: Smail Alhilali (UNIDO)

· Date and Time: Tuesday 13, 08h00 – 09h50

· Room: Sanada II

· Description:

E-waste is one of the fastest growing waste stream globally. It is estimated that around 40 million tons have been generated in 2014 globally. However, only a small fraction of it reaches the formal recycling stream. This results in a sever loss of valuable resources as well as negative impacts on the environment and human health.

The workshop will introduce e-waste programmes implemented by UNIDO and Empa/WRF in partnership with developing countries. Within these programmes tools have been developed to easily calculate a business plan for a manual e-waste dismantling facility taking into account local framework conditions. The tool helps to get a detailed understanding of the requirements for a sustainable business model for e-waste recycling in respective countries. Within the workshop a hands-on exercise will be provided to the participants on the proper application of the business plan calculation tool.

Participants are encouraged to attend the presentation by Mr. Markus Spitzbart titled “Business Plan Calculation Tool for Manual Dismantling Facilities”, which is scheduled for the scientific sessions. This presentation will provide the theoretical background to this Workshop.
