This report consolidates the curriculum and training materials developed for capacity-building programs in the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector across Zimbabwe, Madagascar, and Zambia. Designed and executed in close collaboration with local experts, the programs address the specific ESG challenges facing ASM communities in each country, with the shared goal of promoting responsible mineral extraction and strengthening sector resilience.
The report covers six training modules spanning national and international regulatory frameworks, geology and mining techniques, environmental and social risk management, business skills, and access to finance. Each module includes interactive exercises and practical group activities. The concluding chapter provides templates for evaluating training outcomes and impact.
While several modules are universally applicable and transferable to other country contexts, those covering regulatory frameworks and regional geology have been tailored per country and serve as adaptation templates for future programs.
