Edgar Eduardo Sacayón got 2011 his degree in biology at San Carlos University and started to study biofuels from algae biomass at the Energy Resources Institute in Guatemala. In 2014, he went on to study a Masters Degree in Environmental Management at Massey University in New Zealand and focused on life cycle assessment of energy systems. After returning to Guatemala, in 2016 he started to work at the Instituto de Investigacion y Proyeccion en Ciencia y Tecnologia at Universidad Rafael Landivar. Here, they are developing the methodological frameworks to assess sustainability for urban and energy systems of the country, applying life cycle thinkin. This year, they implemented the first Life Cycle Assessment course for undergraduate students. This is the first life cycle assessment course in the country.
