Suojiang Zhang is a Professor and the Director of IPE, CAS and Vice-Director of the State Key Laboratory of Multi-phase Complex System, IPE, CAS. His main research interests focus on ionic liquids and green process engineering, including molecular simulations, properties, preparation and applications of ionic liquids for catalysis, such as a large-scale preparation process of ionic liquids, an innovative cleaner process of methyl methacrylate (MMA), a new process for the synthesis of ethylene glycol via hydrolysis or alcoholysis of ethylene carbonate, PET degradation, a novel method for production of bio-gasoline from biomass, a new process for CO2 capture, and new electrolyte. Suojiang Zhang has secured and solely managed a number of important projects, such as the Key Program of National Natural Science Funding, National Science Funding for Distinguished Young Scholars, National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), 863 High-tech Project, and international cooperation projects with Mitsubishi Material Co. He was invited to present a number of plenary or keynote lectures, such as 1st Joint China-US Green Chemistry Workshop, 4th International Symposium on Molecular Thermodynamics and Molecular Simulation (MTMS), NSFC and DNRF Joint Symposium on Renewable Energy Technologies and so on. So far, a total of 180 papers have been published in academic journals, four monographs have been written, and more than 40 patents have been authorized. Suojiang Zhang won the Second Class Prize of National Natural Science Award in 2010.
