Marcos Alegre is Executive Director of the NCPC named “Centro de Ecoeficiencia y Responsabilidad Social – CER” operated by Grupo GEA in Perú. Since 1998, Marcos was in charge of Grupo GEA´s SMEs and sustainable environmental management projects. He was Coordinator of the Peruvian Steering Committee for the World Resources Forum organization in Arequipa city in 2014. He has promoted pioneering initiatives on Eco-Industrial Parks and RECP, and is actively working with UNIDO in this field in Peru. Currently, he is leading projects on eco-innovation and sustainable public procurement and ecolabelling in Perú under UNEP Sustainable Production and Consumption global program.
Marcos has experience as independent consultant in environmental issues in Perú and Latin American countries. He has been consultant for The World Bank, Interamerican Development Bank (IADB), USAID, International Labor Organization (ILO), UNIDO, among others.
He is member of the IADB´s Civil Society Advisory Committee in Peru (ConSoc) and has been member of several ad hoc Committees for CDM projects evaluation, as well as member of the Steering Committee of AQUAFONDO, a trust fund for water management projects. In 2015, he was co-author of the book “Greening SMEs. Its impact in Labor and Competitiveness”. IDRC/CER/Grupo GEA.
Marcos Alegre is Sanitary Engineer from the National University of Engineering (1990, Perú) with a Master of Science in Water and Environmental Management at Loughborough University of Technology (1994, UK). He was awarded by UNIDO as trainer on Cleaner Production in 2008.
