Annick Lalive d’Epinay studied architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne as well in Zurich and gained her PhD in environmental sciences from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. In doing so, she focused on the environmental impact of buildings. In lifecycle assessments, both the operating power as well as resource intensity of the building play an important role. Later, Lalive d’Epinay worked for an engineering office, before becoming project manager at the City of Zurich public works office in 2004. She heads the specialist unit for sustainable construction since 2013, which concerns itself with issues such as environmentally friendly construction and other sustainability topics regarding city-owned buildings. The specialist unit for sustainable construction is responsible for the implementation of the goals of the 2000-watt society, which are enshrined in the municipal code of Zurich. Thereby, the specialist unit is not a body exercising public authority but rather part of the building unit “City of Zurich”. Annick Lalive d’Epinay is a mother of three children and an enthusiastic wildwater canoer.
