Michael Funcke-Bartz works with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Entwicklung (GIZ) GmbH. As Senior Advisor in the Center of Competence “Climate Change and Environmental Policy”, he supports designing and implementing of technical cooperation programmes like the project for sustainable management of e-waste in Ghana. The main focus of his work is on increasing resource efficiency along the whole value chain. Before joining the technical and methodological department, he headed GIZ’s Division „Sustainable Technologies, Industrial and Urban Development“. Between 1985 and 2010, as part of German official development cooperation, he worked as capacity development specialist in the field of urban development aiming at professionals and decision-makers from public and private sector. After graduating in Geography and Spanish, he was dedicated as researcher to informal urban development processes in Latin America.
