
Mathias Schluep
Since December 2020, Mathias is the Managing Director of the World Resources Forum, where he is responsible for the operative business and the representation of the Association to the public. He currently coordinates recycling and e-waste management projects in cooperation with the Swiss State Secretariat of Economic Affairs (SECO) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
Between 2014 – 2020, he was the Program Director at the organization, leading the WRF’s program activities related to mining and secondary raw materials.
Before that, between 2006 – 2013 as a Program Manager and Senior Scientist at Empa (Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research), Mathias has provided his expertise in sustainability issues for several cooperation projects with developing countries in Africa (Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda), Asia (Cambodia, India) and Latin America (Argentina, Colombia, Peru) for national and international government organizations and the private industry.
He is experienced in the academic and private sector in the fields of development cooperation, environmental research, and general business consultancy at national and international levels.
Mathias has an academic background in Environmental Engineering, with a Ph.D. in Natural Sciences from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, 2000.
