Bucharest, 2 October, 2012 The Annual Assembly of the Club of Rome has elected WRF Board Member Anders Wijkman and WRF keynote speaker Ernst Ulrich von Weizsaecker as new Co-Presidents of the Club. They are “two global leaders who will continue the strong leadership of the Club” said Secretary-General Ian Johnson.
Anders Wijkman (Sweden) is a former member of the European Parliament and Vice-Chairman of the Tällberg Foundation. He has been a member of the WRF Board since April 2012, has moderated the industry plenary session of WRF 2011 (together with Jacqueline Aloisi de Larderel) and made a lasting impression at WRF 2009 by moderating the plenary discussion round on the draft Conference Declaration.
Ernst Ulrich von Weizsaecker (Germany) is a former member of the German Parliament and is Co-Chair of UNEP’s International Resource Panel. He has been a keynote speaker at several editions of the World Resources Forum. He was founder and president of the Wuppertal Institute.
WRF’s President, Xaver Edelmann has congratulated the two new Co-Presidents of the Club of Rome and expressed his expectation that the elections will strengthen the cooperation between the Forum and the Club.
