San Jose/St Gallen, 06 April 2016 – The South Pole Group announced this week that it will support carbon neutrality of the upcoming World Resources Forum 2016 Latin America and the Caribbean, which will be held in San José (Costa Rica), May 17-20, 2016, in conjunction with the International Sustainable Building Congress 2016.
Emissions generated by travel, catering and by the conference center itself will be offset to the ‘Restoration of degraded areas and reforestation in Cáceres and Cravo Norte‘ project in Colombia. This pioneering forestry project entails permanent reforestation and long-term monitoring of parts of Colombia’s northeast and northwest, with a particular focus on biodiversity. The project seeks to promote sustainable management of forest resources in areas degraded by cattle grazing and mining, in a manner that fosters natural regeneration. High-quality infrastructure, sustainable cities, modern energy supplies and adequate waste management facilities are widely seen as key factor in enabling consumers to adopt more sustainable lifestyles. This can be achieved by increasing investments by business and public authorities in resource-efficiency and CO2 reduction, and helping decision makers in government, business, NGO’s and private households to get access to adequate information, tools and methodologies.
As a follow up of the World Resources Forum 2014, held in Peru, the conference in San Jose will focus on the potential for change in the Latin American and Caribbean region, by showcasing best practices, identifying obstacles and discussing how to overcome them, and forging partnerships and agreements to start acting now. The WRF LAC conference is held in conjunction with the annual International Congress on Habitat and Sustainable Cities alongside the International GREEN EXPO, reinforcing networks and bringing together people and organisations from all over the world to share experiences, learn and participate in an effective and timely technological transfer towards better building in the region.
