St. Gallen, 15 august 2012. The “Art of Waste” contest, held at the occasion of Empa’s annual employee and alumni event “Bratwurst Party” in St. Gallen, has delivered its promise: high quality and sometimes hilarious pieces of art, made out of rubbish, were presented to the WRF jury.
“Waste is no waste. Waste is a resource. Waste can be art.” These words inspired over 20 participants to come and bring their home or office made creations.
The three prizes were handed over by Xaver Edelmann, President of WRF and member of the Board of Directors of Empa, assisted for the occasion by Sascha Bianchi, Marcela Mogilska and Danian de Leeuw.
The first prize went to Kurt Reichmuth for his creation of a sun hat made out of various waste elements, including a jam jar lid, a bike tyre and some metal strips. Second prize was for Sandra Müller for her “wired bunny”, a cute creature made out of e-waste. And the third prize went to Eleane Stocker who brought a magic ball made out of a material that looked like ceramics.
