St. Gallen, 3 March 2016 The Sustainable Recycling Industries team organises a webinar on the ISO Guidance Principles Sustainable Management Recycled Metals. The webinar will be held on March 10, and will introduce the first draft of the principles to newcomers and everyone who is interested to learn more. The webinar is part of the public review of the document. Registration for the free event closes on March 8. REGISTER HERE
The aim of the Public Review is to: (i) collect comments from key stakeholders in order to ensure that the Guidance Principles can be applied worldwide and are beneficial to all affected parts; (ii) follow the requirements of the ISO IWA 19 process and (iii) comply with the ISEAL Code of Good Practice.
The ISO Guidance Principles for Sustainable Management of Recycled Metals are being developed through an International Workshop Agreement (IWA) under the International Standards Organization (ISO). The proposal for an IWA on these Guidance Principles was accepted by the ISO Technical Management Board in April 2015 as the ISO IWA 19. This ISO IWA process is based on consensus building, includes four Workshop sessions followed by public reviews and runs until the end of 2016. The Workshop Session #1 was held in Davos (14-16 October 2015) and a report is available here. More information about the motivation, scope or process of the Guidance Principles is available here.
The Guidance Principles aim to influence the development of international, national and local policies, regulations and frameworks on secondary resources management, related corporate codes of practice, and standards and certification schemes. In particular, they shall ensure that sustainability aspects of secondary metals management (collection, recycling and disposal) are taken into account in the context of micro, small and medium enterprises and the informal sector in developing countries.
The IWA process is directed by the Swiss Association for Standardization (SNV) on behalf of the International Standards Organization (ISO) and supervised by the Secretariat of the SRI Roundtable which is hosted by the World Resources Forum (WRF).
