Arequipa/St. Gallen 1 October 2014 The updated program of World Resources Forum 2014 has been published today.The high-level opening session to be held on October 20 will include welcome speeches by Manuel Pulgar Vidal, Minister of the Environment, Peru, Bruno Oberle, State Secretary Environment, Switzerland, Mara Murillo, Deputy Regional Director of UNEP’s Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, Ana María Solórzano, President of the Congress, Peru, Dirk-Jan Koch, Special Envoy, Natural Resources of The Netherlands, and Jaana Husu-Kallio, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland.
WRF’s Managing Director and former UNEP diplomat Bas de Leeuw will present the dynamic WRF Parade, where the workshops will be presented in “30 second pitches”. Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker, Co-Chair Internation Resource Panel UNEP and Co-President Club of Rome, Germany, Solitaire Townsend, Futerra Sustainability Communications, United Kingdom, and Gisella Orjeda, President of the Science, Technology and Technological Innovation National Council of Peru, will “connect brilliant ideas to people with power”.
Luis Neves, Chairman, Global e-Sustainability Initiative, Belgium, Ana Quiros, Vice-President of Association of Life Cycle Assessment in Latin America, Costa Rica, and Arnold Tukker, Director Institute of Environmental Sciences at Leiden University, The Netherlands, will be among the speakers adressing how to “do business with less”.
Marilyn Mehlmann, General Secretary, Global Action Plan (GAP) International, Sweden, Lewis Akenji, Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) , Japan, and Mariano Castro, Vice Minister of the Environment, Peru, are among the speakers who will talk about lifestyles and education. Around 10-15 workshops will be organised by our partners, on topics ranging from global targets, circular economy, eco-parks, resource wisdom in cities, sustainable recycling industries, Cleaner Production, social science, and decoupling strategies.
Over hundred scientists and researchers from all over the world will present papers and posters in the scientific sessions, on theme clusters innovation for resource-efficiency, policies and stakeholder participation, recycling industries and cities, forestry and climate change, and decoupling.
