Arequipa, 23 october 2014 Over 1,000 participants from 40 countries and international organisations listened yesterday to Vice Minister of the Environment Mariano Castro, who closed the three-day conference, organised in the Peruvian city of Arequipa.
Castro and his co-chair Xaver Edelmann, President of the WRF, thanked the local community on behalf of all participants for their warm hospitality. They praised the work of the organising teams, from Switzerland and Peru, including the volunteers from Arequipa universities. The festive closing ceremony included a parade of primary school kids from Arequipa who had participated in the WRF drawing competion.
The draft chairman’s summary was presented to the conference by Mathias Schluep, program director of the WRF. Participants are invited to send in comments within a week after the draft has been sent to them.

As Bas de Leeuw, Managing Director, stated in his “workshop parade”, the problems identified in the forum are severe, however, we have “managed to connect brilliant ideas to people with power”.
Photos of the event, made by photographers of the Peruvian Ministry of Environment as well as participants themselves are being published online, see in particular our Facebook and Twitter pages.
